The sources said the Ministry launched the service in January 29 last year to ensure the safety and well-being of the Sri Lankan child community. Similar services are available in other countries. The help line has also received 21 complaints in connection with abduction and attempts on abductions while 18 complaints had been received over incest. Six complaints had been made against child marriages last month. According to sources there were 36 incidents on teachers beating children and 85 incidents of parents, relations and outsiders beating children. One hundred and fourteen incidents were reported on preventing children from attending school and the number of incidents reported on abandoning children due to family disputes is 119. Incidents related to discriminating and neglecting children is 120. The service is for children to complain directly but it was parents, teachers, neighbours and other adults who made the majority of complaints. |
