Retail transactions in Commercial Bank (Rs 35 million) and Lanka Cement (Rs 30 million) drove turnover to Rs 116 million, while the indices ended the day mixed. CommBank ended the day down 50 cents at Rs 78.75 while Lanka Cement saw a gain of Rs 1.50 (14%) to end at Rs 12.50. John Keells Holdings saw Rs 8 million in business with the share closing down at Rs 62.50.
The ASPI gained 2 points (+0.1%) to close at 1,640 points while the MPI lost 9 points (-0.5%) to close at 1,727. 49 shares were up for the day while 50 were down. Foreign purchases were at Rs 5 million, while foreign sales was at Rs 37 million. Large cap stocks Sri Lanka Telecom ended the day at Rs 34.25 while Dialog ended at Rs 4.80. Distilleries Company ended at Rs 65.25. In corporate news Commercial Bank had won the Global Finance publications “Best Bank in Sri Lanka” award for the 11th consecutive year. Asian markets were mixed with the Nikkei up 3% and the Hang Seng down half a percent. In India, the BSE Sensex was up 2% and Singapore’s Straits Times Index was up just 0.1%. |
