In yet another twist to their agony, Golden Key depositors were asked by the Inland Revenue Department to pay taxes for the interest earned by their deposits in the past years. In a letter addressed to the depositors the Inland Revenue Department had claimed that 10% of the interest earned through the Golden Key firm was due to the government as a tax and since that amount was not paid, it is still due to the State. However, Golden Key Depositors’ Association President Anusha Mathers responded by saying that the depositors have no money to pay the tax and that if the government can give back their initial deposits they can deduct the taxes from that amount.
