July 19, Colombo: Chaminda Vaas, Sri Lanka's main pace bowler for the last few years announced today that he will retire from Test cricket after the third Test against Pakistan, starting on Monday.
Vaas said however he would continue to play in Twenty20 and one-day international matches. The 35-year-old bowler was dropped for the first two Test matches played against the visiting Pakistani team as well as the recently concluded Twenty20 world Championship without a proper reason. Reportedly the current selection committee wants to remove Vaas from the national team and tomorrow's match would be the farewell Test match for Vaas who played for the country for more than 15 years as the main strike bowler in national cricket team. The bowler debuted in 1994 has taken 354 wickets in 110 tests. Vaas last played in the match series against Pakistan in Lahore in March.
