Three women were arrested from the Kekirawa area in the Anuradhapura district yesterday, for the possession and distribution of counterfeit notes. The women had been found to have with them 227 two thousand rupee notes and 56 thousand rupee notes, bringing a total value to 510, 000.
In addition to this, the police had also taken into custody with them a number of items of equipment that had been allegedly used in the creating of the counterfeit notes, Police Spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka said.
The DIG added that the Kekirawa police had begun investigations into the matter and are hopeful that the find will lead them to more arrests of this nature.
