A key figure among JHU’s international members told Lanka News Web that Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka had firmly informed them that he would not betray any one for personal gains and that he would stand by the country. The source said a large number of JHU activists overseas have already gathered to support the General following a directive by Minister Champika Ranawaka and that plans are being made to hold a massive protest with the participation of members of the Sri Lankna community living in the US outside the US State Department if the US was going to overstep its limits in relation to the General. The Defence Secretary has meanwhile ordered the JHU and NFF to issue statements that create a public impression that the President was intervening in the matter and had also asked these groups to organize protests outside the US embassy in Colombo. |
